This chapter contains Buddha’s views on the impermanence of this world.  His guidance on not getting attached to worldly things and following the path of Dhamma.    So work hard at realizing the truth.  There is hope for people who have not yet realized the truth (verse 172). Insight about the world sets you free.

Verse 167-169: Don’t spend your life being ignorant.  Awake and realize the truth.  One who follows the path of Dhamma (and morality) lives happily.

Verse 170-171: View the world as impermanent, as a mirage. Do not get immersed in it like a fool.

Verse 172-173: He who was formally ignorant but becomes enlightened, illumines the world like a moon which has broken free from the clouds.

Verse 174-175:  Most people are blind, but those who can have insight (vipassana) are like birds who have escaped a net.

Verse 176: One who is not truthful is capable of committing any sin.  He is not worried about this or the next world.

Verse 177: Miserly (one who do not give alms) do not go to heaven, and only foolish do not praise such charity.  Wise people give alms and are happy in this world and next. Seems a bit out of context.

Verse 178: Going on the path of insight/realization is better than sovereignty over the whole universe.
